Scott Lewis gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings to lose his DWL start on Wednesday. Anthony Recker and Tony Batista homered off him. Lewis impressed for the Indians in September to turn himself into a candidate for the 2009 rotation, but he has a 6.75 ERA through three outings in the DWL. On the plus side, he has struck out 16 in 10 2/3 innings.
Anthony Castrovince, of MLB.com, reports Cleveland Indians SP Scott Lewis was named the American League Rookie of the Month for the month of September. He went 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings pitched.
Scott Lewis has been named the AL Rookie of the Month for September, according to the AP. The 25-year-old Lewis went 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA over four starts this past month, with 15 strikeouts.Lewis won his Major League debut against the Orioles on September 10, and never looked back on his way to earning the monthly honor.
News: Indians rookie SP Scott Lewis won his fourth start in four attempts Friday at the White Sox despite allowing six runs -- four earned -- on six hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out one. After allowing zero earned runs in his first 14 major-league innings, he has now allowed seven in his last 10.
Analysis: In spring training this year, Lewis was shut down after straining a back muscle and didn't pitch until June. He then went 8-4 with a 2.53 ERA combined for Double-A Akron and Triple-A Buffalo. He's a nice young pitcher who clearly deserves a flier next season in AL-only leagues, but this late hiccup will help him go largely unnoticed in mixed leagues
Scott Lewis gave up six runs -- four earned -- in five innings, but still won his fourth straight game as the Indians outlasted the White Sox 11-8 on Friday. He's won each of his four major league starts. Lewis served up second-inning home runs to Paul Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski to emerge from the frame down 4-2. However, a big six-run fifth gave the 24-year-old enough cushion to shrug off Jermaine Dye's two-run jack in the bottom of that inning. Lewis completes 2008 with a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings of work. His rapid ascension through the farm system in which he worked 366 2/3 innings and posted a 359/82 K/BB ratio suggests that his early success is not an aberration.
