Chris Haft, of MLB.com, reports the San Francisco Giants outrighted OF Scott McClain to Triple-A Fresno Friday, Oct. 10.
News: Nate Schierholtz hit his first major league home run and Rich Aurilia and Scott McClain also homered to help the Giants rally from a three-run deficit to finally beat the Pittsburgh Pirates at home, 7-6 Saturday night. Aurilia homered on a 1-0 pitch off Maholm leading off the fourth, ending a streak of 23 consecutive scoreless innings thrown by Pittsburgh pitchers at AT&T Park dating back to last season.
Analysis: Consider the journeyman a nice story for the morning paper, but he is nothing more than organizational depth at this point in his career. He could pop some homers down the stretch for Fantasy owners in deeper NL-only leagues, though
McClain has now gone deep in each of his two starts this year and his 5-for-10 with the two jacks and five RBIs since his Sept. 2 callup. The 34-year-old Minor League career journeyman is worth monitoring in NL-only leagues.
Scott McClain went 2-for-4 with a home run on Saturday. After four games, the Giants' first baseman is hitting .500 with two home runs and five RBI...and he's 36.How deep is your league? McClain is an interesting September bat but we are not guaranteeing anything.
