Updating a previous report, Nick Cafardo, of The Boston Globe, reports Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein informed free-agent 1B Sean Casey (Red Sox) that the team will focus on more pressing issues during the offseason, which indicates that Casey will not return to the team in 2009.
According to The Providence Journal, age is a main reason why Boston Red Sox 1B Sean Casey may not be back next season, but return or no return Casey still had fun playing. I love it here. Id love to stay in Boston. Im going to look at the offseason, see whats going on, take a deep breath, get back to my family, get back to Pittsburgh, Casey said.
Ian Browne, of MLB.com, reports Boston Red Sox 1B Sean Casey could see time at first base in the ALCS.
Mark Whicker, of The Orange County Register, reports Boston Red Sox 1B Sean Casey could play first base in Game 2 of the ALDS.
News: The Sports Xchange Sean Casey entered Friday night with a lifetime .548 batting average (14-for-26) against Toronto RHP A.J. Burnett and cranked a clutch two-run double in the fifth inning against the electric-armed right-hander.

But with Lowell out of the lineup over the next four or five days, Casey is a player that will be expected to receive a great deal of playing time at first base. Casey is hitting .333 with 15 RBI in 64 games for the Sox this season and can be useful as a last-minute stopgap option in AL-only leagues
