Athletics.MLB.com's Mychael Urban reports Oakland Athletics SP Sean Gallagher appears to be a lock for a spot in the rotation next year.
Oakland Athletics SP Sean Gallagher allowed eight runs on 10 hits Friday, Sept. 26, against the Seattle Mariners, according to The Associated Press. He walked one and struck out four, falling to 5-7 on the season. Gallagher has never won away from his home park, having gone 0-6 in road starts.
News: Athletics SP Sean Gallagher, who had allowed four earned runs in 17 2/3 innings over his last three starts, struggled Friday at Seattle. He gave up eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out four. He suffered the loss, falling to 5-7.
Analysis: Gallagher is a decent young pitcher who showed some nice signs of breaking out this season. His sleeper potential in 2009 will remain limited to AL-only leagues, though, thanks to his inconsistency
Sean Gallagher was pounded for eight earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work in a 10-8 loss to the Mariners. The Mariners scored two runs off Gallagher before Jose Lopez deposited a three-run bomb to left in the third. Lopez took Gallagher yard for the second time in the fifth. The product of the Rich Harden trade, Gallagher finishes his first season with Oakland 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA and a 49/33 K/BB ratio in 50 innings of work. He will have to learn how to pitch on tour to have success in 2009, as he is now 0-6 away from his home ballpark in his short career.
