This was the kind of meltdown that can leave an ugly dent on a team's ERA and WHIP for a while. Little went right for the rookie right-hander in this one, and with his ERA up to 6.55 and his record at 1-2, he should be benched until he gets his act together.

News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Oakland SP Sean Gallagher has a tired right arm and will have to miss at least one start.
Analysis: Gallagher missed a start earlier in August with a shoulder issue, so he might well miss more than just one or two games. Dana Eveland, who was sent down earlier this month, is clearly the favorite to claim Gallagher's spot for at least a start or two. Eveland has pitched very well in Triple-A with a 3-0 record and a 2.57 ERA in three starts. In his last outing on Monday, he allowed one run on two hits over eight innings with eight strikeouts. Kirk Saarloos and Dan Meyer might also get a shot at starting

A huge meltdown from Gallagher, the kind of outing that takes weeks for your ERA and WHIP to recover from. Little went right for the rookie right-hander in this one, and with his ERA up to 6.55 and his record at 1-2, bench him until he proves otherwise.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Sean Gallagher will miss at least one start and "more realistically two" with what is being called a "tired right arm." There were reports two weeks ago that Gallagher was headed to the disabled list with shoulder problems, but instead he avoided the shelf while allowing 13 runs in nine innings and is now being shut down for at least a week. Gallagher has struggled with his command since being traded to Oakland and coughed up 10 runs Tuesday night, so it wouldn't be shocking to see the A's simply end his season. With Gallagher sidelined, Dana Eveland figures to rejoin the rotation.Source: San Francisco Chronicle

The Oakland Tribune reports Oakland Athletics SP Sean Gallagher (arm) gave up 11 hits and a career-high 10 earned runs in five innings on Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the Minnesota Twins, and manager Bob Geren later admitted Gallagher may be suffering from a dead arm. "There's some fatigue in his arm," Geren said. "He might need some time off. We're anticipating some possibilities as far as him maybe missing a start."
