Jeff Zrebiec, of The Baltimore Sun, is reporting a grievance arbitrator will finally decide how much money -- if any -- the Baltimore Orioles owe free-agent SP Sidney Ponson (Yankees). Orioles general counsel Russell Smouse confirmed the grievance between the organization and Ponson would start being heard Dec. 17 in Baltimore by arbitrator Shyam Das. The hearing could take several days and there is no definitive timetable for Das to render a decision once it ends.
Ed Price, of The Newark Star-Ledger, is reporting New York Yankees SP Sidney Ponson has filed for free agency.
News: Yankees SP Sidney Ponson, making his first start since Sept. 13, allowed one run on four hits in six innings during the second game of a doubleheader Sunday at Boston. He issued one walk and recorded five strikeouts. He didn't factor in the decision, however.
Analysis: Ponson finishes an up-and-down 2008 season with a 5.04 ERA. He occasionally looked viable in Fantasy, but he remains too erratic for you to consider drafting him next season. He might not even end up with a starting job
Ponson enjoyed perhaps his most impressive outing with the Yankees, with the five strikeouts representing his most in 15 starts for New York. He finished the season 4-4 with a 5.08 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in 24 starts, so Ponson didn't have much fantasy value in any format.
News: Yankees SP Sidney Ponson was scheduled to pitch against the Red Sox on Saturday but the game was postponed due to rain. It will be made up on Sunday as part of a doubleheader and Ponson will pitch in one of the games.
Analysis: Ponson is nothing more than an AL-only starter and since this is his last start of the season and it is already too late to get him in your lineup in most Fantasy leagues, Ponson is not a recommended option in Fantasy
