That's back-to-back dynamite starts from Wakefield, who blanked the A's for 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision effort last time out. The sagacious 42-year-old veteran now owns a 3.67 ERA with a 98/54 K/BB ratio and makes for a fine choice when he takes the mound next against the Rangers at Fenway Park.

Tim Wakefield picked up his seventh win of the season by limiting the Royals to one earned run on Wednesday night. Wakefield surrendered just four hits, didn't issue a walk and struck out six batters in the solid effort. His ERA now stands at 3.67, and his record would be much better than 7-8 if he'd gotten better support this season: his 16 quality starts put him in a tie for the league lead.

News: Boston SP Tim Wakefield (7-8) threw knuckleballs almost exclusively Wednesday vs. the Royals, tossing practically each delivery toward the plate in the 63 mph range while winning for the first time in four starts. Wakefield allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits over six innings of work. He didn't walk a batter and had six K's. His ERA is 3.67.
Analysis: Wakefield had been cold but has now gone two straight solid starts of at least six innings. He's only allowed one run over both outings. With him pitching twice in Fantasy Week 20 (Aug. 11-17), Wakefield becomes a viable starter in mixed Fantasy formats. Wakefield will start Tuesday against Texas and then finish the week against Toronto
