Rangers pitcher Vicente Padilla has been named the club's 2008 Pitcher of the Year in voting by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.That should tell you how desperate they are for pitching in Arlington. Padilla was 14-8 with a 4.74 ERA in 29 starts for the Rangers. He led Texas in wins, innings (171), strikeouts (127) and ERA.

Much better than his disastrous '07 campaign, but improvement doesn't necessarily mean Padilla was consistent by any stretch. The Rangers right-hander benefits from having good run support, but that's about the extent of his value.

Texas Rangers SP Vicente Padilla allowed one run on four hits over six innings Friday, Sept. 26, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, according to The Associated Press. He walked two and struck out eight, improving to 14-8 on the season. Padilla tied the club record of 11 road victories in a season, and held the opposition to fewer than two runs for the ninth time this year.
