It was a lost year for Martinez, and there's no point analyzing what went wrong and why. It does, however, present a good buying opportunity at a position where quality bats are few and far between. The Indians have the rare luxury of catching depth, especially now that they saw what Kelly Shoppach can accomplish in an everyday role (.261 AVG, 21 HRs, 55 RBIs). As a result, Martinez could be due for more time at first, or Shoppach could be dealt.
