The Los Angeles Angels will not start negotiations with slugger Vladimir Guerrero on a long-term contract extension, according to the L.A. Times. "I think both sides have to be in a comfortable range as far as what an extension may or may not entail. We're a ways away," said GM Tony Reagins.Guerrero, whose $15 million option the team picked up last week, had knee surgery in October. He is still a very good fantasy option, though it would not be shocking to see his numbers go down a tick, as his batting average and at-bats have decreased for three consecutive seasons.

Bill Shaikin, of the Los Angeles Times, reports the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have tabled contract negotiations with OF Vladimir Guerrero, raising the chances that he could leave the team after the 2009 season. It is unclear if Guerrero will test free agency without an extension next fall. The team will begin negotiations with Guerrero next year, according to general manager Tony Reagins.
No surprise here, as Guerrero and Lackey have proven to be the team's best hitter and pitcher, respectively. The 32-year-old Vladdy will likely DH more after undergoing surgery on his left knee earlier this month. Lackey, who missed roughly one and a half in 2008 with a right triceps strain, will again anchor the Angels rotation and be among the first 10 fantasy starters to go on draft day.
Vladimir Guerrero had left knee surgery on October 10th, according to the Angels' official site.Guerrero had his option picked up by the Angels for $15 million yesterday, and the team doesn't seem concerned about his availability to begin the 2009 season.
