News: Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo, who started Game 1 of the NLDS against the Phillies after missing most of the season with a knee injury, relieved Jeff Suppan in Game 4 on Sunday and kept the Phillies in check, not allowing another hit until the seventh inning. He pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and recording one strikeout.
Analysis: Gallardo is proving healthy again as he builds his arm back up. Consider him a great injury-risk sleeper for spring 2009 at this point. We optimistically ranking him as the No. 35 best starting pitcher in our initial rankings for 2009, and you can understand why considering he went 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA as a rookie in 2007
Yovani Gallardo threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Sunday as the Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs.Gallardo finishes his first post season with an ERA of 0.00 over seven innings, though he did allow three unearned runs in his Game 1 loss to the Phillies. The future is bright for this star, and he will be drafted early next season based on that potential.
News: Making his second start since returning from surgery for a torn knee ligament, Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo got rattled after his defense fell apart in the third Wednesday. The 22-year-old righty allowed three unearned runs and three hits in four innings, walking five. Gallardo became the second pitcher in major league history to start a postseason game without recording a win that year. He pitched in three games before he injured his right knee May 1 and had a 1.88 ERA to go with four no-decisions. "Things like that are going to happen," Gallardo said about the defensive lapses. "There's no excuse for you to come in and let your guard down. You still have to go out there and make pitches and get out of situations like that."

Rob Maaddi, of The Associated Press, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo gave up three unearned runs and three hits while walking five in four innings Wednesday, Oct. 1, in Game 1 of the NLDS. He became just the second pitcher in major league history to start a playoff game without earning a win all year.
Yovani Gallardo was removed after allowing three unearned runs in four innings Wednesday against the Phillies. The defense really let Gallardo down in the three-run third inning, with three miscues leading to the runs. There was one error charged, that to Rickie Weeks. However, Bill Hall was just as responsible after double-clutching Cole Hamels' sac bunt and throwing a knuckler to the second baseman covering first. Gallardo did walk five in the outing, so it wasn't all about the defense. Still, he deserved better. Since he threw just 75 pitches, he should be available on three days' rest in Game 4, if not as a starter then probably in middle relief.
