The Associated Press reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Zach Duke held the Brewers to a run and seven hits in seven innings Thursday, Sept. 25, and left with the score tied 1-1.

Zach Duke tossed seven innings of one-run ball against the Brewers on Thursday. He scattered seven hits and struck out two but got a no-decision as the Brewers won in extra innings.Duke continues to be very inconsistent and he's usually more bad than good. He is 5-14 this season with a 4.82 ERA.

Zach Duke limited the Brewers to one run through seven innings in a no-decision Thursday. Duke wasn't about to allow his ERA to go back over 5.00. He ends the year 5-14 with a 4.82 ERA. It's a significant improvement over his 2007, but it still makes him a fifth starter at best. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him some good. However, one could say the same thing about Ian Snell, and the Pirates need to collect pitching, not start giving it up.

News: Pirates SP Zach Duke, who allowed five earned runs on 11 hits in five innings in his last start, rebounded to give up only one earned run on seven hits in seven innings, striking out two. He did not factor in the decision.
Analysis: If you eliminate that one awful start, Duke has a 1.57 ERA over his last four starts. He's not a dominant pitcher, though, and hasn't posted an ERA below 4.48 yet in a full season. He could go undrafted outside of the deepest of leagues in 2009

Jenifer Langosch, of MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Zach Duke is 3-4 with a 5.08 ERA in his career against the Milwaukee Brewers. Duke has just one win since the All-Star break.
