Miner may finally get a shot at starting after holding his own in Detroit's rotation. Still, the jury is out on whether he's capable of doing much damage, much less stick around long enough to prove it.

News: Tigers SP Zach Miner took a no decision in his final start of the season Sunday against the Rays. He allowed three runs on four hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one. He finishes the year 8-5 with a 4.27 ERA.

Analysis: Miner got off to a hot start after entering the rotation, but he finished with a 6.67 ERA in five September starts. He doesn't have much upside and will likely have to fight for a rotation spot next spring, so leave him for AL-only leagues

Zach Miner surrendered three runs in six innings against the Rays on Sunday but did not factor into the decision. Miner struck out six and walked just one, but homers by Rocco Baldelli and Eric Hinske combined to account for all three runs he allowed. Miner finishes the year with a 4.27 ERA between 13 starts and 32 relief appearances. Miner is the favorite to open next season as the Tigers' fifth starter, but the return of Freddy Garcia or the signing of another veteran would send him back to the bullpen.

Analysis: Miner has impressed for the most part as a member of the Tigers rotation, but the magic fairy dust has worn off a bit lately. He projects as nothing more than an AL-only starter, so treat him accordingly entering 2009

Miner allowed six hits and four walks while striking out only two batters.Miner is now winless in four starts during which time he has posted a 7.22 ERA. He remains nothing more than a soft tossing control artist that will struggle when he isn't able to control both sides of the plate.
