Royals named Mike Arbuckle senior adviser for scouting and player development. A nice coup for Kansas City, getting the guy who was largely responsible for bringing in the youngsters that made Philadelphia's championship possible. If the team fails to take a step forward under Dayton Moore next year, Arbuckle would have to be looked at as a possibility to take over the GM role.Related: Phillies
LJWorld.com reports Kansas City Royals SP Zack Greinke won the Joe Burke special achievement award.
Zack Greinke isn't in a rush to ink a long-term deal with the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star. "I'm comfortable with my pitching ability," he said, "to (the point) where I feel like I'm going to pitch (well) for a while. I don't need to get a long-term deal because I feel I'll be able to pitch (well) and earn a long-term deal when I become a free agent."Greinke had a superb 2008 season and is a fine fantasy option even on a bad Royals squad.
The Royals benefited greatly from leaving Greinke in the rotation (instead of the bullpen). He'll be 26 years old by the time Opening Day 2009 arrives, and already he's shown the kind of plate command veteran starters strive for. Consider him a Top 25-30 starter.
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports the Texas Rangers made a big offer to acquire Kansas City Royals SP Zack Greinke before the July 31 trade deadline.
