As expected, the Mets announced Thursday that general manager Omar Minaya has agreed to a three-year contract extension. The deal runs through 2012, with team options for 2013 and 2014. In four seasons under Minaya the Mets have gone 357-291 (.551) while missing the playoffs three times, including an 89-73 record and second-place finish this year despite a $143 million payroll. "We obviously were not a very good team when Omar came on board and we think he deserves another chance to take us where we want to be," chief operating officer Fred Wilpon said. "Omar is our guy. We believe he has a plan to take us forward to where we need to be."Source: New York Daily News
