Josh Beckett : October 12th, 2008, 1:55 am est
Josh Beckett was pounded for eight runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday by the Rays. Beckett was flat-out awful, but manager Terry Francona kept on sticking with him, even sending him back out to face the top of the order in the fifth after he had already given up five runs and generated one missed swing on a fastball all night. That was a bad decision, but it was letting him face Evan Longoria, who had already homered and doubled, after he walked B.J. Upton and gave up an RBI single to Carlos Pena with one out in the fifth that completely obliterated the standard for boneheaded postseason moves. Joe Maddon had a few doozies himself tonight, but in a game that featured plenty of poor managing, lousy umpiring and terrible broadcasting, Francona actually managed to stand out.
