Blue Jays designated second baseman Kevin Melillo for assignment. Even though Aaron Hill never came back, Melillo wasn't given an opportunity after being picked up from the A's on June 5. He hit .257/.332/.465 for Triple-A Syracuse. Melillo, a left-handed-hitting second baseman, is pretty similar to Mike Fontenot, who finally caught a break and played a significant role for the Cubs this season. He'll be pretty good insurance for whatever team he ends up with.
