Updating previous items, The Associated Press reports the Milwaukee Brewers, as expected, exercised their $3.75 million option on CL Salomon Torres Thursday, Nov. 13, despite the fact he has already announced his retirement. The club also plans to place him on the voluntary retired list on Friday, Nov. 14, which would formally remove him from the 40-man roster and also prevent the club from having to pay his salary. By exercising the option, they retain his rights in the event he later decides to play again in 2009. They could have also paid him a $300,000 buyout.
