Tom Glavine : May 20th, 2008, 8:10 pm est
Braves SP Tom Glavine retired his last 17 hitters during his first post-New York appearance against the Mets, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 6-1 victory Tuesday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Glavine (2-1) gave up a homer to Luis Castillo on the sixth pitch of the game but escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first. He retired the Mets in order over the next five innings, beating the team he pitched for the previous five seasons. 'Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would go 17 up, 17 down after that first inning,' said Glavine. 'There was no reason to expect that.' Glavine ultimately conceded to the bullpen after six innings, bothered by sore knee. His final line: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 Ks.
