Pitcher Vinnie Chulk has been designated for assignment by the Giants, according to MLB.com. The team also purchased the contract of right-hander Sergio Romo from Double-A Connecticut.Chulk held a 4.83 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 31.2 innings with only 16 strikeouts while working out of the Giants' pen this season. The 29-year old will spend 72 hours on waivers while the Giants try to trade him, which is not likely to happen. Chulk indicated that if he isn't claimed, he would decline an outright assignment to Triple-A Fresno.
